Envirocleanse, LLC, owned by Charter Brokerage – a BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY company – has developed its inTank Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS), in collaboration with Glosten, Inc., to prevent the transfer of harmful aquatic species via ship’s ballast water. With patented nozzles inside the ballast tanks and a robust hypochlorite generator, the Envirocleanse inTankTM BWTS is the most advanced and sustainable system on the market.

The inTankTM BWTS process ensures disinfection of ballast water tanks and piping through the application of a targeted CT, which is the product of disinfection Concentration (in milligrams per liter, mg/L) and disinfection contact Time (in hours) measured as total residual oxidant (TRO). The system works by circulating each ballast tank, injecting disinfectant, until the target dose is reached. This is all done while the vessel is underway, thus eliminating the risk of interrupting port operations.

Other Applications

The Envirocleanse mission is to provide the world with a sustainable biocide. The patent-pending technology behind Envirocleanse was brought to the forefront by Dr. Phil Bellan as a means to fight infection in wounds. In late 2015, Charter Brokerage, a BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY unit, bought Envirocleanse to increase Envirocleanse’s size and scope. Since its purchase, the company has begun to expand into the oil-and-gas, medical, food and food distribution, and the ballast-water-treatment industries. The flagship of Envirocleanse is the FDA-approved and EPA-registered disinfectant known as Envirocleanse-A (the A stands for “Anolite”). The Anolite solution is hypochlorous acid (HOCL), a nontoxic, non-corrosive biodegradable disinfectant. Envirocleanse has teamed up with Glosten Marine Engineering to create the only In-Tank Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS) on the market. Treating the water in the tank provides numerous advantages over all other BWTS currently available. To find out more, please contact one of our listed team members.

The Team

Medical Industry

  • Envirocleanse-A has many useful applications in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and other medical facilities. It is an extremely effective means of eliminating bacteria, viruses and fungi when used as a topical disinfectant on hard surfaces, such as tables, sinks, floors and other surfaces. Most important, it is completely nontoxic and biodegradable as well as nonflammable.

Independent laboratory testing has shown Envirocleanse-A to be effective in hard-surface disinfection against bacteria and viruses, including the following:

    • MRSA (staphylococcus)
    • Norovirus
    • VRE (vancomysin-resistant enterococcus)
    • Ecoli H7: 157 [NB: 157?]
    • H1N1 virus
    • Salmonella
    • Listeria
    • Hepatitis A, B and C

A truly green product, Envirocleanse-A Anolite Solution is completely nontoxic and fully biodegradable.

    Envirocleanse-A Anolite Solution is EPA-registered and FDA-approved.

  • Food Services

  • Envirocleanse-A has been widely used as a topical disinfectant in the food service and hospitality industry. Since it is completely nontoxic and biodegradable, it poses no risk to workers or the environment and can be used safely on all surfaces that require cleaning and disinfection. It can be sprayed in liquid form, sprayed on, for example, fresh produce to ensure safety and cleanliness. It can also be applied in the form of ice under fish, poultry and other meats. Independent laboratory testing has shown that Envirocleanse-A is an effective hard-surface disinfecting agent against bacteria and viruses, including the following:

    • MRSA (staphylococcus)
    • Norovirus
    • VRE (vancomysin-resistant enterococcus)
    • Ecoli H7: 157 [NB: 157?]

  • Frac Pond Water Management

  • Envirocleanse has a revolutionary solution for Frac Pond Water Management. Utilizing on site electrochemical generators, the Envirocleanse system disperses hypochlorous acid into a frac pond ridding it of all bacteria. Our entire system fits in a 20-foot container for easy shipping and to serve as its housing on site. The container hooks up to a system of nozzles installed at the bottom of the pond to effectively mix the entire body of water.

Hypochlorous acid is non-toxic, sustainable, and requires no special handling. While perfectly safe to non-microscopic organisms, there is no bacteria resistant to the effects of hypochlorous acid. Envirocleanse will not only keep a frac pond from turning green: the reduction of bacteria at the pond will result in cost savings in the form of less chemical needed to reduce bacterial load at a well site.
